Tool Control.
CNC Machining is a precise manufacturing process powered by computer software to ensure accurate and repeatable results every time. Based near Birmingham, Tool-Cal has been in the industry for over 70 years, and we strive to provide the very best services in the field.
Tool Control System
Tool-Cal offers a bespoke tool control system in wall-mounted shadow boards and tool trolleys, or we can manufacture a solution that fits your requirements. Each solution is cut precisely by our CNC machines to ensure that every tool/equipment fits snugly in the tool-control foam. A wide range of colours and foam densities is available, allowing tool-control foam to match your corporate or brand colours.
The foam organises your workshops and adds a level of protection against damage. With our dual-colour foams, you can quickly identify tools being used or missing. The contrasting colour of the empty shadow board pockets clearly indicates that a tool is not present. This warning can prevent loss of tools, theft, and staff arriving on site without the correct equipment.
Tool-Cal will work with you from the start through to delivery of the project, keeping you updated at every stage of the process, from the initial visit to site, to profiling and designing the layout that suits the requirements for your company.

Tool Control Foam
Tool control foam can be crucial for safety. The visual check can help prevent foreign object damage (FOD) by highlighting, for example, if an engineer accidentally leaves a tool in an engine or machinery after servicing or repair. It also allows you to perform audits, reduce tool loss, and have high visibility for each storage solution while protecting your tools/equipment.
We believe that the 5S methodology is best summarised by the philosophy, “a place for everything and everything in its place.”
- Sort: Eliminate that which is not needed.
- Straighten: Organise what remains after sorting.
- Shine: Clean and inspect the work area.
- Standardise: Write standards for 5S.
- Sustain: Consistently apply the 5S standards.
At their core, these 5S activities build the discipline needed for substantial and continuous improvement by creating (and sustaining) efficient and effective work areas.
